Bible ReadingLuke 17:1-5; Luke 10:27; Matthew 6: 31-34

Understanding:  [NB The section in italics is intended to 'set the scene' for the person leading a group study. You don't need to read it out the group, unless you think it would be helpful.]

Jesus said that 'things that cause people to stumble/sin are bound to come' so we should not be surprised when that happens !

In one sense, it does not really matter Who has let us down, or How that happened and Why they did it ... the real issue is What we do about it.

Jesus said that putting Him first means we don't allow these problems to become a block to worship, we forgive other people (and ourselves), and refuse to believe that God is anything less than kind, generous, loving and faithful ... even when it does not seem that way !!

The response to Jesus teaching on this occasion was for the apostles to say 'if that's what we need to do, then we need more faith!'.

So, not only do we need to worship God in the midst of adversity, but we also are called to forgive people, even if  they are our 'enemies'.  Arrrgh!!

In order to do this, we need to 'seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness' .

Ultimately this boils down into trusting God, putting him first and forgiving people - not easy, but absolutely essential.

Application:  Trusting God and forgiveness.

Worship is central to healthy living.  You were created to worship, and when you don't worship God, your life is lacking something fundemental.

Discuss this:

Disappointment (being or feeling let down) can be a very tangible block to worship.  But if you don't worship, then your life goes out of balance.

Usually forgiveness is the key.

Have a look at the Lord's prayer together and see where you get to.

Pray for one another in small groups ... encourgage and allow space for repentence, either in silence or out loud.
