On Monday September 1st I started working for my Church with my friend Hannah who is also going to be doing the Frontier Project at RRCC (Reigate & Redhill Community Church). I will be discipling the girls, helping in possibly re-launching Kidz Klub, helping in the youth work every other Sunday morning, helping at our youth service ‘Sublime’ which is every other Sunday night. Sublime for 13-18 year olds and is an evening starting with refreshments (coffee supplied free of charge from Starbucks), chatting to the youth, then a talk from Mark (the youth pastor), and a time of worship led by the youth band.  I also am involved in ‘Y2K’ which is a group for the younger youth, we meet every Wednesday evening which consists of snacks, games, activities and learning more about God. We are also hoping to start some school’s work in the local secondary schools and to start some more outreach into the community, possibly in the park on a Friday night. Please pray for this.
Every month Hannah & I and all the other London FPs head off to Wimbledon, where we spend 3 days training, in lectures learning more about the Bible. Last month was our first time and was a really enjoyable few days. There are 35 of us, all mainly around our age and we all got on really well. We arrived on Tuesday 9th September and spent the first day getting to know each other and were put into tribes, mine is called “Belinda’s Bandits” and I was nominated co-ordinator! We also discussed tasks such as naming the 10 fundamental beliefs of Christianity. We all were staying with families from the Church in Wimbledon, so stayed up there for these few days. On Wednesday we studied Spiritual Disciplines and Thursday studied the Doctrine of Scripture. After our training we were set an assignment, we are given three (one from each day) and choose one to complete. I did one where I had to read the book “Incomparable” by Andrew Wilson, (great book, really recommend it), and wrote 1000 word essay on “Why Theology Matters”. It was great because made me examine what and why I believed what I do so was very interesting.
I’ve now been working for the Church for over a month, which is pretty scary but here’s a few great things that have happened I’d like to share with you.
I have enjoyed discipling one of the girls in our youth who became a Christian this summer at Newday, (a Christian week of teaching, worship and outreach for 11-18year olds, new frontiers run). She has recently decided she wants to get baptised and today she asked me if I would baptise her! Please pray for her.
Sublime has seen all of youth come along, many bringing their non-Christian friends and get involved in serving at it, which has been great. Please pray the youth are strengthened in their faith and have their hearts set on fire for God’s Kingdom.
Y2K has been great fun to help at and a few weeks ago I did my first talk at, on choosing to obey God’s word. The young people responded well to it by paying attention and asking questions at the end, it was very encouraging.
God has incredible provided for me, especially in this time of Credit Crunch, praise Him!
Last week we went training and it was an amazing week! We spent Tuesday studying Old Testament History, Wednesday studying the Doctrine of God and in the evening I went out and evangelised with 4 of the other FPs, it was amazing how God used us and I had the opportunity to pray for a girl, Cecile, on the street after talking with her, please pray for her. Thursday we studied Personal Development, which went through recognising weakness or bad attitudes and setting ourselves goals to how we want to surrender these to God and to grow in Christ. On Thursday afternoon we prayed for each other and had an incredible time in God’s presence. As a group we were so excited about us being the next generation for the Church, building the Church, seeing people saved, seeing our Lord’s name exalted in this world!
Tomorrow we are going to a prayer and fasting conference till Wednesday, which am looking forward to but also quite nervous, please pray for me.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first month and am so excited about how God is using me and am looking forward to this year being a year of shaping and deepening in my relationship with God.
Thanks for all your support,
Lots of love,
Rachel.
