The Bible really is a book like no other - claiming to span all of human history, and written over a period of about 2,000 years. It is a veritable library containing sixty six books of history, poetry, biography, proverbs, wisdom literature, letters, prophecies and other spiritual writings. They hold together in an amazing unity and point to a single inspiration behind the forty or so human authors.
Is it possible that, nearly 2.000 years later, this compilation can speak with relevance to a very different world than the human authors could ever have imagined ?
January 13th: 'Understanding your God Language '. Not everybody learns the same way, so it should be no surprise if not everybody relates to God in exactly the same way. How do you relate to God most naturally ? As God has chosen to reveal himself primarily through a book ... how do we work with that ? See notes.
January 20th: 'The Bible as God's Word '. How do we know that this book is reliable ? Given the claims that are made for it, and with eternity in view, are we right to be confident about the Bible ? See notes.
January 27th: 'The God Delusion '. It seems that popular atheism has stepped away from the philisophical arguments against Gods' existence and has taken up a more piecemeal but broad based attack on all aspects of religion. How are we to handle the specific attacks against the Bible as God's word ? See notes and Slides.
Ours is a troubled age and with more troubling years ahead and yet the Bible seems increasingly relevant to a humanity that is more and more at odds with itself. Come and find out some of the reasons why.
